Figuring Out GPL

SPSS 15.0 is going to be released quite soon.  I don't know the release date, of course, but spss.com already has pre-sale material in the store area. GPL is going to be greatly expanded in this release – all the brochures indicate this.  So how does one get up to speed on the biggest news in visulization in many years?  I was hoping that mastering GPL would be enough.  Alas, that is not to be.  I have found coming up with cool GPL examples has been made more difficult by the fact that some of the work is done "behind the scenes"  The trick is to spend roughly equal time on Chart Templates, GPL, and the GGRAPH command. If you haven't looked into chart templates for a couple versions, perhaps you should start there.  Make a simple chart, double click, and FILE … Save Chart Template … The menu that you will see will give you a good headstart.  For GPL, Help … Topics … Base System … GPL Reference.  For GGRAPH, the syntax reference guide (also available through help) is the way to go.  Bottom line: don't try to learn only one of the three.  I will try to put some examples up soon, but I have learned the hard way, each example has to discuss each of these.  Good luck. It is worth the effort.
