I am seriously considering buying a Mac laptop. It is really only this year that is a real option. The Mac version of SPSS is always a version or two behind the current PC version. As someone who makes my living using SPSS, I can't be a version behind. But … the new macs run PC software directly on the chip. They no longer merely emulate PC operating systems. Macs tend not to crash. My PC laptop often crashes – does yours? Lately, I have had to deal with the deadly "blue screen". So I have been hanging out in Mac stores. {Check out the amazing one in Manhattan!} I also had a student recently that was running everything on his Mac. SPSS 14.0 and Clementine 10.0 with no problems. Mac laptops are more money upfront, but everyone that I have asked about it finds them reliable over the long haul. Nervous? … me to, I guess. But if I take the plunge, I will post the results. If anyone out there has experience with running SPSS on a mac – either Mac version or PC version – please post or email me. Python is an obvious complication as it deals directly with the operating system. I will sort out that eventually and make a post.
